Bohemian Protest

Place of OriginBohemia (modern day Czech Republic)
Date1415
DescriptionThis is the last surviving copy of the famous protest of the Bohemian nobles against the burning of the religious reformer Jan Hus in 1415. A magnificent vellum document surrounded by the seals of the Bohemian nobility, it was acquired by Scottish theologian William Guild (1586-1657) while he was on the continent during the British civil wars. The document has become an icon of religious freedom, believed to anticipate the Protestant Reformation.
