DescriptionA split branch of juniper wood with graffiti and Norse inscription in runes. One side is decorated with a fleet of 48 ships with elaborate stems, on the other side we see a full size ship with dragon heads. The inscription says 'her.fer .hafdiæfr’ (here sails the dauntless (valiant) master of the waves). This is one of the c. 700 everyday objects with runic writing found in Bergen.
