DescriptionThe family of Pehr Kalm (1716-1779) was from Närpes, Finland (then part of Sweden). Kalm studied under Carl von Linné in Uppsala, Sweden. The professor in Uppsala recommended that all his talented pupils go on an expedition to different countries of the world to collect biological and geographical data. Pehr Kalm went to North America and wrote a famous book of his expedition. Kalm was the first to give a scientific description of Niagara Falls.
